Building Resilience through WASH and Waste Management Support in Urban Informal Settlements

An estimated 400,000 people live in the informal settlements of Yangon. A substantial part of the community faces challenges in accessing basic services. Only 6% have piped water, forcing many (26%), to rely on rainwater collection. Sanitation is also a concern, with 55% sharing toilets and 11% resorting to open defecation. 59% frequently dispose of their waste at a community dumping site, a substantial part may lack proper disposal options.

The project supports the communities in 45 locations, including 257 schools and 42 community health clinics, 22 water supply systems, 45 school latrines, 120 household latrines, 22 locations served with SWM activities, 25,000 households, and 170,777 students given IEC materials in informal settlements in Yangon.
