Myanmar Climate Action Week 2024: Key Outcomes Report

The second Myanmar Climate Action Week (MCAW) took place from June 24-29, 2024, in Yangon, focusing on climate adaptation and resilience efforts among local communities. MCAW is an initiative of UN-Habitat under the EU-funded Myanmar Climate Change Alliance 2 (MCCA2) program, with co-financing this year from CDE/University of Bern. This event occurred at a crucial time as Myanmar faces crises on multiple fronts, including escalating conflict, climate change, economic decline, environmental damage, and mass internal displacement. These interconnected crises critically threaten the well-being and livelihoods of Myanmar’s people, as well as compound risks for already vulnerable people. The event featured discussions on local climate resilience, the Climate and Gender Analysis Report, and a private sector engagement strategy, supported by the Myanmar Climate Action Network (M-CAN). Complementary side events in various regions promoted innovative climate solutions and heightened awareness across different sectors and communities.

Myanmar Climate Action Week (MCAW) also aimed to unite a diverse array of climate actors to promote climate discussion and action, recognizing that the interconnected nature of the poly-crisis strengthens the need for cross-sectoral partnerships. By engaging stakeholders, including UN agencies, INGOs, LNGOs, CSOs, and the private sector, the event sought to foster urgency, commitment, and collaboration for climate action. This key outcomes report aims to further extract crucial recommendations and action points from each session, with a view to advancing the climate discussion towards COP29 in November.
