Country Programme Overview 2024 – 2025 (UN-Habitat Myanmar)
Myanmar is a country of vast diversity, beauty, and a wealth of natural resources, including oil, gas, mining, water, timber, land, and not least, a rich cultural heritage. Despite this, three years after the military takeover, the country experiences a severe multidimensional crisis, with conflict-related displacement and socioeconomic impacts exacerbated by climate change, particularly affecting the most vulnerable groups. Recent and increasing population displacement is creating new pockets of vulnerability, with serious protection risks, limited access to basic services, and food insecurity. An estimated 18.6 million people —one-third of the country’s population— are currently in need of humanitarian aid. This figure includes 2.7 million recently displaced persons as of March 2024. In other words, seven percent of Myanmar’s population is currently displaced.
