Post Disaster Recovery & Reconstruction
UN-Habitat Post Disaster Recovery & Reconstruction programmes assist countries in recovering from war or natural disasters. The agencies interventions are driven by a “Peoples’ Process” which seeks to empower disaster-stricken to be in the drivers’ seat of their own recovery
Since 2008 UN-Habitat assisted to natural disaster and conflict affected communities through reconstruction and recovery programmes in Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Rakhine, Shan, Kayah, Kachin, Chin States & Regions. Up to 2015, UN-Habitat assisted in rebuilding nearly 20,000 destroyed homes, vital community infrastructure and ways of life of the affected. In addition the agency has also helped capacitate and facilitate the recovery process through technical expertise, and policy level inputs.
