Training on Rapid Post Disaster Assessment
In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Myanmar and amid more than 350 aftershocks, UN-Habitat Myanmar, in collaboration with the Myanmar Earthquake Committee (MEC), UN-Habitat Iran, and the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology (IIEES), Iran, conducted an online training for volunteer engineers. This training is part of an ongoing capacity-building initiative by UN-Habitat and MEC to strengthen local expertise in earthquake response and building safety assessments. Building assessments are actively being carried out in Mandalay, Sagaing, and Nyaungshwe. These efforts are essential in identifying “safe to occupy” buildings, easing the burden on emergency shelters, and helping affected families regain a sense of safety and stability.
