Myanmar Consortium for Capacity Development on Disaster Management (MCCDDM) to support Disaster Management Training (2nd batch)

nagement Course (BDMC) (2nd batch) was opened at Disaster Management Training Center (DMTC), Hinthada Township, Ayeyarwady Region. H.E. Dr. Daw Myat Myat Ohn Khin, Honorable Minister of Social Welfare, officials of Relief and Resettlement and partners of Myanmar Consortium for Capacity Development on Disaster Management (MCCDDM) attended the opening ceremony. The training will take for 11 days.
The Minister of Social Welfare delivered the inaugural speech as “New initiatives are taking place with the changing process in Myanmar. When new government with democratic system practices in Myanmar, people should be more responsive as good citizens for the brighter future of Myanmar. It is important that Government officials, UN/NGOs, donors and citizens should work together as a one. We have to be All for One, One for All.”
She continued that, “Global warming is increasing, Myanmar witnessed cyclone Nargis in 2008 followed by devastating floods and landslide in 2015. Myanmar Govt. will be developing a Climate Change Risk Index with the help of UN Agencies. A full-fledged Emergency Operation Centre has already been setup at Nay Pyi Taw and will be opened in a month time. We all are focusing to reduce the disaster risk by delivering the message of pre-planning, knowledge exchange, awareness programmes, workshops, press release, pamphlets, and posters and also by increasing the economic conditions of Myanmar citizens. In continuation to the Basic course, DMTC will be holding intermediate level course and in future, will do diploma courses. Besides DMTC will offer research programs similar to other regional and international institutions following the higher standards of curriculum. It is the time to Think Positive for Positive Change.”
Sixty participants and 20 facilitators joined to DMTC for the dynamic practice of sharing experiences and knowledges during and after the training. One of the training participants said, “We hope to gain knowledge from this course through training session and group activities. After training, we will be continue working together for disaster risk reduction in Myanmar.”
MCCDDM programme, supported by USAID, in a close collaboration with RRD, to support the Disaster Management Training Center (DMTC) of Relief and Resettlement Department, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Government of Myanmar. The Disaster Management Course (DMC) has been reviewed and updated in changing context with more emphasis on skill development. The new DMC is comprised with 4 modules namely Introduction to Disaster Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, Disaster Response, Recovery and Reconstruction and field visit. These modules are interlinked and built on the preceding modules developed previously. The process was steered by MCCDDM and chaired by Relief and Resettlement Department.
