Message of Condolences from Ms. Kazuko ISHIGAKI, Regional Director of UN-Habitat ROAP, following the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand

I would like to express my condolences to those who were affected by the earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on 28 March 2025. I am deeply sorry to hear about the loss and damages caused by the disaster.

The earthquake has caused immense devastation, taking lives, destroying homes, and leaving people and communities in urgent need of support. In these difficult times, we need to get united to support the affected people and communities with our best effort and capacities.

Let me remind the history. Our support for recovery from Cyclone Nargis in 2008 was the start of Myanmar country office. Since then, UN Habitat has long been a trusted partner in Myanmar, with extensive experience in earthquake response and resilient recovery.

In both Myanmar and Thailand, we all have worked side by side with communities to rebuild safer, stronger and more resilient housings and communities.

Now, once again, we must put our expertise into action. I believe our dedication, our knowledge, and our compassion will make a real difference in the lives of those affected.

We are ready to support recovery efforts, and to help affected people and communities rebuild not just what was lost, but build back better for more resilient future.

The most vulnerable people cannot raise voice very often. We need to proactively find and reach out to them. The UN principle of leaving no one behind is critical from emergency management phase toward reconstruction phase.

We know that earthquakes do not just destroy buildings, they destroy lives, economies and sadly, hopes of people and community. To those who have lost families, to those whose housings and livelihoods were destroyed, and to the communities struggling to recover, we need to tell that you are not alone. We need to deliver such message of hope.

UN Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, Bangkok Programme Office, and Myanmar Country Office have already started many discussions over how to support the affected. We are ready to work in close coordination with humanitarian and development partners, and most importantly, the affected communities themselves to revive hope in their lives.

UN-Habitat is calling on governments, humanitarian agencies, and partners to join efforts and mobilize resources for life-saving aid and long-term recovery solutions.

2025 ခုနှစ် မတ်လ 28 ရက်နေ့တွင် မြန်မာနှင့် ထိုင်းနိုင်ငံတို့တွင် ဖြစ်ပွားခဲ့သော ငလျင်ဒဏ်ကြောင့် ထိခိုက်နစ်နာခဲ့ရသူများအတွက် ဝမ်းနည်းကြောင်း ပြောကြားလိုပါသည်။ သဘာဝဘေးကြောင့် ဆုံးရှုံးနစ်နာမှုများနှင့် ပတ်သက်၍ အထူးပင် စိတ်မကောင်းဖြစ်မိပါသည်။

ငလျင်လှုပ်ခတ်မှုကြောင့် ကြီးမားသော ပျက်စီးဆုံးရှုံးမှုများ၊ အသက်အိုးအိမ် စည်းစိမ်များ ပျက်စီးဆုံးရှုံးခဲ့ရပြီး လူများနှင့် ရပ်ရွာလူထု၏ အကူအညီများ အရေးပေါ် လိုအပ်နေပါသည်။ ဤခက်ခဲသောအချိန်များတွင် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့၏အစွမ်းကုန်ကြိုးစားအားထုတ်မှုနှင့် စွမ်းဆောင်ရည်များဖြင့် ဒုက္ခရောက်နေသူများနှင့် ရပ်ရွာလူထုကို ကူညီပံ့ပိုးရန် စည်းလုံးညီညွတ်ရန် လိုအပ်ပါသည်။

မြန်မာနှင့် ထိုင်းနှစ်နိုင်ငံစလုံးတွင် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့အားလုံးသည် ပိုမိုဘေးကင်းသော၊ ခိုင်ခံ့ပြီး ခံနိုင်ရည်ရှိသော အိမ်ရာများနှင့် လူ့အသိုင်းအဝိုင်းများကို ပြန်လည်တည်ဆောက်ရန်အတွက် လူမှုအသိုင်းအဝိုင်းများနှင့် လက်တွဲလုပ်ဆောင်ခဲ့ကြသည်။

ယခုတစ်ဖန် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့၏ ကျွမ်းကျင်မှုကို လက်တွေ့လုပ်ဆောင်ရမည်ဖြစ်သည်။ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့၏ပေးဆပ်မှု၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့၏အသိပညာနှင့် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့၏ကရုဏာသည် ထိခိုက်ခံရသူများ၏ဘဝတွင် အမှန်တကယ်ပြောင်းလဲသွားလိမ့်မည်ဟု ကျွန်တော်ယုံကြည်ပါသည်။

ပြန်လည်ထူထောင်ရေးဆိုင်ရာ ကြိုးပမ်းမှုများကို ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ပံ့ပိုးကူညီရန်နှင့် ဆုံးရှုံးသွားသောအရာများကို ပြန်လည်တည်ဆောက်ရန်သာမက ပိုမိုခံနိုင်ရည်ရှိသော အနာဂတ်အတွက် ပိုမိုကောင်းမွန်စွာ ပြန်လည်တည်ဆောက်နိုင်ရန် ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် အဆင်သင့်ဖြစ်နေပါသည်။

ထိခိုက်လွယ်သူတွေ၏ အသံများကို မကြာခဏ ဖော်ထုတ်ခွင်မရကြပါ။ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သည် ၎င်းတို့ထံ ရှာဖွေပြီး ဆက်သွယ်ရန် လိုအပ်ပါသည်။ အရေးပေါ် စီမံခန့်ခွဲမှု အဆင့်မှ ပြန်လည် တည်ဆောက်ရေး အဆင့်သို့ မည်သူ့ကိုမျှ နောက်မထားခဲ့ရန် ကုလသမဂ္ဂ မူဝါဒသည် အရေးကြီးပါသည်။

ငလျင်လှုပ်ခြင်းသည် အဆောက်အဦများကို ဖျက်ဆီးရုံသာမက အသက်အိုးအိမ်စည်းစိမ်များ၊ စီးပွားရေးများကိုပါ ဖျက်စီးခြင်း နှင့် ဝမ်းနည်းစရာမှာ လူများနှင့် အသိုက်အဝန်း၏ မျှော်လင့်ချက်များကို ဖျက်ဆီးခြင်းဖြစ်သည်ကို ကျွန်ုပ်တို့သိပါသည်။ မိသားစုဆုံးရှုံးခဲ့ရသူများ၊ အိုးအိမ်နှင့် အသက်မွေးဝမ်းကျောင်းများ ပျက်စီးဆုံးရှုံးခဲ့ရသူများနှင့် ရုန်းကန်နေရသော ရပ်ရွာများအတွက်၊ သင်တစ်ဦးတည်းမဟုတ်ကြောင်း ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ ပြောလိုပါသည်။ ဒီလိုမျှော်လင့်ချက် သတင်းစကား ပေးပို့ဖို့ လိုပါသည်။
