Unlocking Nature-Based Adaptation in Myanmar: Learning from Different Geo-climatic Regions
Unlocking Nature-Based Adaptation in Myanmar: Learning from Different Geo-climatic Regions presents an in-depth exploration of how Myanmar is integrating nature-based solutions (NbS) and ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) across its diverse landscapes amid escalating climate challenges. Spearheaded by UN-Habitat under the Myanmar Climate Change Alliance (MCCA2), this initiative emphasizes locally-led climate action, participatory planning, and inclusive engagement—especially with women, youth, and vulnerable groups—to develop context-specific strategies in the Delta, Dry Zone, Hilly Region, and urban areas.
The publication highlights a robust set of practices, including rainwater harvesting, mangrove restoration, climate-smart agriculture, and school-led climate action, underpinned by tools like Climate Change Vulnerability Assessments (CCVAs) and Local Climate Action Planning (LCAP). Through collaborative networks such as the Myanmar Climate Action Network (M-CAN), it underscores the role of low-cost, locally driven innovations and knowledge-sharing platforms in building long-term resilience and adaptive capacity across communities.
