Resilient Construction Skills Training (Carpenter & Manson Training) 2017
This publication highlights the outcomes of UN-Habitat’s technical support under the BRACED Programme in Myanmar, aimed at strengthening community resilience to climate change and disasters. Through national and township-level trainings, over 280 carpenters and masons from eight disaster-prone townships were trained in safer construction practices, with many earning NSSA certifications recognized across ASEAN. Post-training assessments indicated improved employment opportunities, increased wages, and the practical application of disaster-resilient building techniques in both private and community infrastructure. The initiative demonstrates how institutionalized skills training, in collaboration with national authorities, can promote sustainable and resilient construction practices at the grassroots level.
