Nature-Based Solutions: Regional and National Experiences on Climate Action

Climate change is happening now and affecting every country on every continent. People are experiencing the significant impacts of climate change, which include changing weather patterns, rising sea level, and more extreme weather events. The greenhouse gas emissions from human activities are driving climate change and continue to rise. The diversity of weather patterns, ecosystems & landscapes, and livelihood systems compels us to discuss and explore more ways of sharing the knowledge and to learn from each other to deal with climate crisis.

This session on ‘Nature-Based Solutions: Regional Experiences on Climate Action’ brought international experts from Philippines and India to advocate nature based solutions on urgent climate actions, exchange knowledge and ideas, and promote best practices of climate actions in the region. This – helped to learn more from – neighboring countries based on the experiences on dealing with climate crisis and potential solutions to build climate resilience, as well as how these regional experiences can be applied in the context of Myanmar to accelerate the implementation of climate actions across all sectors.

The session ‘National Experiences on Climate Action’ provided a platform for the climate actors to advocate, share knowledge, and learn from each other. The experts shared their experiences of climate actions in three different climatic zones, such as dry zones, coastal areas, and hilly regions in Myanmar. A panel discussion on “Key thematic areas and methodologies to accelerate the implementation of climate actions in the Myanmar context” brought experts from the UN, INGOs, and LNGO together to exchange ideas. The main discussion points in this session focused on the impact of climate change in various geographical locations in Myanmar, including coastal areas such as Rakhine, the Delta, and the Tanintharyi Coastline.

Myanmar is one of the most vulnerable countries for climate change in the world and needs to – consider ways that we will bring to act now and working with our communities and partners to identify locally appropriate solutions in Myanmar. Myanmar has learned a lot in the past from Climate Disaster such as cyclone Nargis, this reminded Myanmar communities to rebuild better and be more resilient to future climatic shock. It is important to – consider climate smart agriculture and ways to ensure that families have access to nutritious food and are able to earn income in a sustainable way.
